We have some general tone guidelines that’ll help you strike the right balance between an informative blog post for a professional audience and your artistic magnum opus.

• Less Dickens, more Hemingway. Favor short, muscular sentences. Get to the good stuff fast.
• True originality surprises readers into active engagement. Monotony lulls people into passivity. We want people to care about what we’re saying.
• Talk like a person. Use casual language. We want to be friendly, not sterile.
• Use contractions.
• Use the second person.
• Provide data and advice people can actually do something with.
• Be intentional with adjectives. We want to come off as precise and concise.
